The sixth and indisputable short is the story of a gay snob who is just too information for about anything, well at least that is the facade he is trying to promote. He never acts as the pledge one, does not do any drugs, and hates poor people. His friends are on a profession to expose the real him to the world in a very tricky and comic and sexy way. Behind the generic ownership of Boys & Girls lies a surprising enjoyable and nuanced visionary comedy. Teen heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr. plays Ryan, a dorky, emotionally sincere boyish guy who keeps crossing paths with Jennifer, played by Claire Forlani, an unprejudiced and willfully unattached young woman. Their opportunity meetings coincide with relationship traumas and they start to confide in each other, which leads to a more earnest friendship and, in the midst of their college years, a flatter. It's a bit of a stock plot line to have their friendship threatened by lustful attraction, but Boys & Girls has just enough genuine sentiment to make it compelling. Meanwhile, Jason Biggs (from American Pie) plays Ryan's roommate, a obsessive liar and would-be scam artist, who carries off some mignonne funny scenes. Forlani and Prinze calling together quite well. Their performances hearken back to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s, with the repressed manful simultaneously attracted and horrified by a footloose dame. Some kooky moments are a illiberal strained, but at other times the movie has a refreshing realism about understanding emotions. Overall, a much more engaging and entertaining flick than its ad compete suggests.
