The video , titled "Activist Elijah with Michele Bachmann," has been viewed more than 3.1 million times since it was uploaded on YouTube on Dec. 4.
In the video, the boy is encouraged to say something to the Minnesota congresswoman. He says it once, she can't understand him, so he moves in closer and whispers in her ear:
"My mommy's gay, and she doesn't need fixing," Elijah says.
In an question Wednesday with CNN's John King, Bachmann said the boy "obviously didn't fancy to say what he was put up to say, and I just think it's reprehensible when someone uses a little child to lend a political agenda.
