CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- I mournfulness the death of another gay teenager. His suicide breaks my heart. Eric James Borges, 19, of California, committed suicide on Jan. 11, 2012 after filming an "It Gets Raise" film for the Trevor Project. 

I am now 60 years old, and I have been out for most of my person. Forty years ago, I could not have imagined the progress we have made. But why do so many teenagers make this choice?

The suicide status among gay teenagers is higher than any other group in our society. It is higher because most gay teenagers have low self-rank, they are lonely and frightened, and they have little or no support. I wonder how many of these children have present the vitriolic and hate-filled articles and decided they would rather end their lives than survive in a world like this? I wonder if this is part of the so-called "culture of lifetime" everyone seems to talking about.

The movement for full civil rights for the gay, lesbian, swinging both ways and transgender community began at a tiny club named Stonewall in New York Metropolis in June more than 40 years ago. The patrons of this club, mostly drag queens and people who were perceived to be gay, had been constantly harassed by the New York Metropolis Police Department. That night they decided they were not going to take it anymore. They struck back at NYC's finest, and the wing to attain full civil rights for the GLBT community was born.
