The D.C. Convention may once again take up legislation this year protecting gay and lesbian students from bullying. That legislation, which was introduced fashionable in 2010 but was never passed in 2011, could come before the council once again this spring.
At the same tempo, there is a new training film for teachers trying to address the stew in primary school. The children interviewed in the video, called " What Do You Know ," are sometimes irresolute, and often candid, as they talk about their own experiences with the word 'gay.'
"A lot of kids in our philosophy know the word gay because even kindergarteners know it," one student says in the video. From another: "Sometimes people in my sect call each other gay or something like that when they're angry at them."
"Two people, a boy and a boy, or a girl and a girl, and they lady-love each other," explains a third.
The children, all between the ages of 6 and 12, were interviewed for the new 13-one sec training film. It asks kids a series of questions on the issue.
